Task 3 Process Essay
Purpose
The purpose of my original multimedia/hypermedia product was to provide a walkthrough of my classroom and a description of common class procedures and students’ accessibility to resources when Teacher Orientation Night was held virtually.
Target Audience
The target audience for the multimedia/hypermedia product I created are the students in my classroom and their parents/guardians. The target audience is appropriate for this product because the purpose of this website is to sample my classroom culture during a time when visitor access is restricted.
Software and Rationalization
To create my video, I used an iPhone 11 to record and YouTube Studio to host the final product. I chose to use my iPhone to record the video for its accessibility and ease of use – you only need to open the “Camera” function and change the setting to “Video” so that you can point and shoot. I used YouTube Studio because it hosts my video for free and I knew I would be able to restrict privacy access.
Process of Creation
As it had been some time between this task and my original upload, I sought out the video How to Upload Videos with YouTube Studio I had originally used to create this multimedia/hypermedia product (YouTube Creators, 2020). The process of creation was as follows:
Conceptual Framework
Because the target audience are the students in my classroom and their parents/guardians, and the purpose of this product is to sample my classroom culture during a time when visitor access is restricted, I originally had to think through the process of walking through my classroom in terms of where useful items are located when creating this video. To complete this, a flowchart best makes sense, as each area of the classroom could be identified, as well as the subtopic(s) of each area. To create my flowchart, I used PowerPoint. I chose to work with this software because it is something I use frequently in my classroom for the production of lesson materials. Being familiar with PowerPoint, I knew it had the “SmartArt” option, which conveniently has the ability to automatically format a flowchart.

As it had been some time between this task and my original upload, I sought out the video How to Upload Videos with YouTube Studio I had originally used to create this multimedia/hypermedia product (YouTube Creators, 2020). The process of creation was as follows:
- Shoot video on iPhone 11
- Airdrop video from iPhone to MacBook
- Login to YouTube Studio (I already had an account.)
- On the Channel Dashboard, click the upload icon in the top right (up arrow with a line under it)
- Choose the video file you’d like to upload
- From here, I was asked to add a title, description, and thumbnail for the video. I added the title “Ms. Graham’s Classroom Tour,” but I did not set a description or thumbnail. Here I also set the video’s audience (“Yes, it’s made for kids”) and clicked “Next.”
- In the following screen you can add different video elements like end screens and cards. I did not use these options, so I again clicked “Next.”
- Finally, under “Visibility,” I chose “Unlisted” (only people with a link can see the video) and clicked “Publish” for the video to go public immediately.

Because the target audience are the students in my classroom and their parents/guardians, and the purpose of this product is to sample my classroom culture during a time when visitor access is restricted, I originally had to think through the process of walking through my classroom in terms of where useful items are located when creating this video. Being familiar with PowerPoint, I knew it had the “SmartArt” option, which conveniently has the ability to automatically format a flowchart.
Conceptual Framework Process
The process of creating a flowchart in PowerPoint was as follows:
- Open PowerPoint and click on “Blank Presentation”
- With the slide highlighted, click “Layout” then “Blank” in the “Home” toolbar at the top of the screen
- Click on the “Insert” toolbar at the top of the screen, then “SmartArt.”
- A dropdown list will appear. Here I chose “Process,” then “Accent Process”
- On the left side of the flowchart that appears on the slide, there is an arrow pointing to the right. I clicked on this arrow. Here the bullets farthest to the left are the boxes in the flowchart that are filled in with blue and the indented bullet points are for the outlined boxes. At this time, I replaced the word “text” with “Outside Classroom,” “Front of Classroom,” and “Right of Classroom” for the bullet points to the far left.
- Since I needed more blue boxes, in the same popup, I pressed “enter” on the last bullet point, then clicked the back left blue arrow at the top. I followed this step twice so I could add “Back of Classroom” and “Left of Classroom.”
- From here I wanted to add the subtopics to be covered in each area of the room to the outlined boxes. This was done by clicking the word “Text” inside the outlined box, then pressing “Enter” in between each subtopic.
- To save the file, I clicked “File,” then “Save As.”
- Once the file was named and saved to the desktop, I uploaded it to my Google Drive by clicking “New,” then “File Upload,” choosing the name of the file on the desktop, and clicking “Open.”
- At this time, I opened the PowerPoint, now Google Slide, file clicked on “File,” “Publish to Web,” then “Embed.” Here I changed the “Slide Size” to “Small,” before clicking “Publish” and copying the embedding code
- Finally I went to my Weebly “Multimedia” page, drag and dropped the “Embed Code” option onto the page from the “Build” toolbar, and pasted the embedding code from the Google Slide where it stated “Click to Set Custom HTML.” Happy with its appearance, I clicked “Publish.”
